The Conservatives’ party political broadcast for the elections has been hastily re-filmed to focus exclusively on the expenses scandal. I very much doubt that there will be any mention of European policy whatsoever.
“I want to speak directly to everyone at home about the issue that is doing so much to undermine our whole political process - MPs expenses….I’m sorry for the actions of some Conservative MPs,” he will say tonight.

You make a good point.
But it’s tricky… the British public are very angry about the expense scandals. If national politicians don’t campaign on national issues, then they will be seen as being out of touch and could lose votes.
The national political parties are more or less locked into campaigning on national issues.
