EP elections in Cyprus: A battle between right and left

Three surveys during last weekend show similar trends regarding the outcome of the EP elections in Cyprus, to take place on June 6th.

As usual the battle is between the right and the left wing parties

The first survey, by ΓΝΩΡΑ/RAI prepared for the “Phileleftheros” newspaper, right – wing opposition DISY party secures the first position with 26,2%, followed by ruling AKEL left wing party with 25,3%, center Democratic Party 11,1%, EDEK Socialists with 5,9%, right - wing European Party 3,8% and the Cyprus Greens 0,8%.

Another survey, prepared by Symmetron for the “Kathimerini” newspaper gives similar results. DISY 28,7%, AKEL 27,6%, DIKO 12,2%, EDEK 6,2%, European Party 3,4% and the Greens 1,2%.

A survey by Metron Analysis for the newspaper “Alitheia” gives DISY again the first position with 26,8%, followed by AKEL 24,7%, DIKO 10,4%, EDEK 6,3%, European Party 3,4% and the Greens 1,3%.

Based on the surveys, DISY will elect two MEPs, AKEL also two, DIKO one and most probably EDEK will also elect one for the first time.

Cypriot voters are to elect six MEPs to represent their country at the EP.

    Yes, in fact the Cyprus communist party, AKEL, is the ruling party. Its former General Secretary, Demetris Christofias, is today’s Cyprus President.
