The beginning of this week brought the launching of VoteWatch, a new website aimed at reflecting accurately the activity of MEP’s in the European Parliament, as well as the overall activity of political groups or national delegations. “Using sophisticated statistical methods developed by political scientists from the London School of Economics and Political Science and the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the website covers the Parliament’s activities during the entire 2004-2009 term and, starting with the new term, will be updated following each voting session in plenary”, say the authors of the website.
VoteWatch is ran by four political scientists: Simon Hix and Sara Hagemann, both from LSE, Doru Frănţescu, the leader of Qvorum, one of the newest and most influential Romanian NGO’s, and Abdul Noury, from ULB.
Another website with a similar goal is www.epvote.eu, which has been around for quite some time now. Both websites offer essentially the same type of information, but presented in a different manner. Both are excellent tools for analyzing the activity of MEP’s, especially now, before a new round of European elections, when many of the current MEP’s are running for a new term.
