What are the most important reasons why people must vote for you?
Marcourt: “I want to change European politics. Further more I have the necessary knowledge about regional and European politics.”
Is this your first time Europe?
Marcourt: “Yes”
Is your programme for the regional elections very different from that for the European elections?
Marcourt: “We have the luck to have a real European programme that of the PES, the Party of European Socialists. So it isn’t just accessory of our national programme. The PES is a party that has invested much power and energy in a European concept that has attention for all member states. It’s important to have a collective programme in order to create a European project that is focused on all its habitants.”
Is the possible entry of Turkey high on your party’s topic list?
Marcourt: “Yes, we are in favour of the entry of Turkey because we need to avoid creating rivalling parties who can wage war on each other. We need to do everything to neutralise the culture shock between the different populations. That’s the big problem of the 21st century. The integration of Turkey into the European Union would be a step in the right direction. That doesn’t mean that it has to happen immediately. We need to continue negotiations but we shouldn’t compromise our fundamental principles such as the protection of the Human rights.”

Marcourt: “1. A lager European integration

3. A better political project for al EU citizens.”
If you could change one thing about the working of the European Union or European Parliament what would that be?
Marcourt: “They should give more power to the European Parliament.”

Marcourt: “The opening of the borders to other countries.”

If you could chose – regardless of the outcome of the elections – who gets to take the place of Barroso as President of the European Commission. Who would it be and why?
Marcourt : “It should be a socialist in order to make a break with the current politic policy. Someone like Poul Nyrup Rasmussen for example.”
