Czech government in demission has tough times ahead, ruling the European Council few more days, negotiating new government, preparing for new national parliament elections in October, etc. So, EP elections seems to be good chance to examine public moods. Once again, “European ideas and agenda” at its best.
1. Anti-campaign by ruling Civic Democrats (ODS), blaming chairman of opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) Jiri Paroubek for causing chaos: “Europe or the Czech Republic, I don’t care about either. Yours Jiri Paroubek. ” This brilliant European idea was presented on the press conference by current MEP from ODS Jan Zahradil.

2. Campaign poster from Social Democrats says: “The end of Topolanek’s government, the end of judiciary mafia and the end of exploitation of the police. Vote for SECURITY on 5th June.” All are issues very closely connected with European Parliament. Congrats, CSSD.

Question is whether this style of campaign is just a consequence of political instability after last national elections and permanent campaign, or political leaders and their marketing aides really don’t differentiate (and don’t care about) the type of elections they are running in. Both possibilities are bad ones.
