Czech Republic has 24 members of the European Parliament. I can name only a few of them. They almost disappeared from public life after the elections in 2004. (Yes, the same year as the passengers of Oceanic 815 did!) So I decided to “investigate” how much are our MEPs visible in the EP.
There is a very useful section on EP’s website called “Your MEPs“. So I visited profiles of all Czech MEPs and looked at number of their speeches in plenary. It can’t be used as the only one criteria of activity, but it’s quite interesting. Especially when you compare it with another country. Portugal is larger, but it has the same number of seats in EP and its population is very close to Czech (about 10 millions). There is a huge difference between Czech and Portuguese MEPs.
Some MEPs want to “work” in EP for another term. This is one of many options how to evaluate them. Just for information: There are 963 results found for Hans-Gert Pöttering, the president of EP.
