How to get the Public Interested in your European Campaign

Today on my lunch break I attended the launch of a European Campaign. What was different about this launch? Well I think there was one major difference between this and other campaigns I have read about, because this one was on the streets of Cork.

Colm Burke MEP (Ireland South - Fine Gael/EPP-ED) launched his campaign in a swirl of activity on Patrick Street, Cork. He had a band, an army of brightly coloured volunteers (including me), frsibees, arm bands, stickers, balloons and many other things.

Colm brought European politics to the people of Cork.

This is how you get people interested in Europe, you bring it to them. You bring it into their lives as they go about their business. Colm got a great reaction for doing this.

People were asking who is it for, what are they doing and why. It was great to explain it to people and raise awareness of the European Election Campaign.

I went back to work on a high from my lunch and my colleges thought I had been on a date as I was so happy!

That is how you run an interesting campaign. You get out of the offices and onto the streets. You don’t send open letters, you explain your points to the people on the street and get their reactions and get them involved!

And it certainly is the right step Andrei. I hope more European Campaigns learn from this and stop concentrating things in Brussels!
