Tibet and its culture is disappearing, what’s the EU doing?

Recently the Dalai Lama has harshly condemned China for human rights violations that produced a real hell in Tibet, as he said: “Today, the religion, culture, language and identity, which successive generations of Tibetans have considered more precious than their lives, are nearing extinction”.

Europe hasn’t yet raised its voice to defend Tibet mainly because money is more important than human lives and cultures. Keeping good relations with Beijing is mandatory for many EU countries that are willing to close their eyes pretending nothing serious it’s happening in Tibet.

When the Dalai Lama visited Italy it was hardly met by our government representatives, while the Pope refused to meet him on the false pretense that he was leaving for another trip. The same scene repeated during his visit in Europe, as each country behaved differently, some of them welcoming him as a hero, others completely refusing to meet him.

This international crises underlines how the EU lacks of a common view on one of the most important aspects of a country: foreign policy.
