Yesterday, Ms Mechtild Rothe (EP Vice-president for EP Information offices in the Member States) presented official part of the campaign, which will be managed by the EP.
I took part in the press conference in Bratislava’s Information office, so here are some details, which have not been presented to the public so far.
1. Campaign should have “common (European) features and national differences”. This mean for example, that there were selected 10 topics by the Parliament connected mainly with the political issues and problems which are tackled, or are about to be- immigration, energy, family care, fuels,… Now, every state (national institutions) chose 4 topics, which will be “communicated” during the campaign. For Slovakia it is safety, consumer protection, energetics and budget. I don’t really understand the method which was used in selection, especially questions of budget might be of the much importance, but not very “public-friendly”.

2. Posters will carry slogan: “European elections”, not Elections to the European Parliament. We were told, that the aim is to persuade people, that the elections are “really european“. Don’t understand it either. (Graphic materials can be found here- when you download “postcards” in your language you should actually find out what are selected topics in your country.)

3. Budget for the whole campaign is 18 mil. euro- 5 cent per voter/4 cents per eucitizen (budget for the year 2004 was 13 mil.). For this money, marketing company Scholz & Friends will provide tv and radio spots (national mutations of a central one), leaflets, posters (50 000 for Slovakia), billboards (approx 300), 3D models of the posters (rather huge, we should be the only country with 3 of them- “standard” is 2) and “choice boxes”- kind of video recording and online streaming box people can use to express themselves in a variety of ways (one per country). Interesting point is, that 15 countries with the lowest voter turnout from the last elections will get extra 1 mil. euro for the campaign- paid radio spots. Budget for the “election night” of 7th June is 3 mil. euro. (reasonable spending in the time of crisis?)
Press conference- 8 people all together. Lots of media attention.

Great, congratulations with being the first one to write about it! We’ll have the press conference only in 10 days as long as I remember, so I hope to see more media attention on it in Latvia afterwards.
P.S. There will be also some souvenirs given out in each country, made centrally, but each EPIO decides which souvenirs exactly they want and how many - e.g., bags, notepads etc.
In my opinion the best tv show of 2009 was family guy ? do you guys agree with me ?
So many another individuals are underappreciated and some individuals don’t see how great they have it until they lose the individual.
