First of all, a big Thank You to all the organisers and participants of the launching event! It was a great weekend, I am glad I took this challenge. ‘Wait a minute….Challenge??’ you might ask. Well, it is the first time I’m writing about the European Union, and this is quite a “head first” first approach. But challenges are there to be taken on, beat up, and reduced to a mere accessory you like to look at proudly! So Let’s go:
The European…What?
A big topic that doesn’t inspire many youngsters. But does it inspire one Nation more than another?
I can safely say that Luxembourgers don’t get too excited over the EU. We’re at the heart of Europe, our Prime Minister is nicknamed ‘Mr Euro’, we host some of the Union’s Institutions and, as a small detail, we were even one of its founders!
So there is no geographical reason not to care, neither is there a lack of representation. We even have the physical prove of the Union in our Capital! Still, people seem to vote with more enthusiasm for German Sing Contests than for political elections. I personally believe less in Casting shows than in the European Union, but the fact that I use both in one sentence shows that I’m also only beginning to feel as concerned as I should.

Will there be fan letters?
Could it be that Luxembourgers think of the EU as an old institution, which hasn’t really evolved with time? Short: is it not sexy to young people? Plus, what makes some people more interested in politics than others? Is it related to their country of origin? Or level of education?
How do you feel young people in your country relate to the Union?
I feel like Italy probably has the sexyist politics in Europe and Amsterdam has the sexyist streets. Makes me wonder if we really want sexy politics after all?
Hehe, good point! I think it’s best not to take the word ‘Sexy’ in a literal manner here.
