Jobs and mobility in Rome

Third day for the th!nkers taking part in Y Vote conference in Rome. After some rainy sessions, today was time to jump into the campus and talk with the students from La Sapienza University and share with them impressions about the main topic : jobs  and mobility. The first question to approach them: Do you know what will happen in June 2009 in the European Union?

As expected taking into account the results of other street actions during the past dsci2578conferences from Y Vote campaign in other European cities, many of the interview people didn´t know about the elections to the European Parliament. During the first days from Y Vote in Rome, the participants have been preparing the field meeting different MEP and asking them about mobility and education issues, concrete measures in relationship with Erasmus programs, and points of view from the Parliament in job policies for Youth.

The results of the campus actions leaded also to the conclusion that many students agree with the increase of possibilities to study and work abroad between the European borders, but they still find some arguments to stay in their national countries -Italy this time-. Family, financial guarantees and language skills are the main reasons for refusing such experiences. on the other hand, there is a more optimistic stream, still not informed about the dsci2590-1most important happenings in Europe, but conscious of the importance of moving to some other country in the short future.

At the end, one of the most important outcomes of the interviewers was the shared  impressions that we can observe among European Students. All with different surroundings and social contexts, but at the end, the outcoming problems and fears are the same in most of the countries, and the opportunities -discovered or still unprofited- are almost the same for European Youth.

For tomorrow, we will share again this experience with a panel of Italian MEPs, so will will have the opportunity to bring Youth impressions concerning job and mobility issues to the floor, and see how our politicians react and explain their work on this field.

No doubts there will be many interesting topics to discuss and debate, and this panel will be the best closing for a fruitful conference, specially taking into account the present economic downturn and the possible lack of job opportunities for the newcomers in the labor market.

Remember Th!nkers, we have a meeting tomorrow after at 18.00  in the nice city of Rome,  La Sapienza University. See you there!
