Next week there will be an interesting week in Germany, because on Tuesday and Wednesday the Federal Constitutional Court will hear the case of the Lisbon Treaty. However, it is peculiar that two days were set for the trial. That only happens once or twice a year. Thus, we can see that the court won’t let the Lisbon treaty easily pass. Whereas we are used to a very “Pro-European” Germany, this time there is no
guarantee that the jurists led the treaty pass.
Different groups have brought an action against the Lisbon treaty, one is the party “Die Linke” of the Bundestag another is the member of the Bundestag Peter Gauweiler from the CSU party. They both claim that with the Lisbon transfers too much power to the EU, which is precarious because of the lack of democracy in the EU. In addition, the Federal Constitutional Court itself will be suspicious, because a transfer of power to the EU will also mean less power for them. Their importance decreases with the growth of the European Union. Thus, we can be curious about the week in Germany.
The worst case scenario will be that the jurists decide that the Lisbon Treaty is unconstitutional. What Angela Merkel & Co. will do then is ambiguous. It will be a big backlash for Europe. And Europe will be at a fork.

Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe
Hi franziska,
This is a really interesting topic, and right now the constitutional court has been together. They still did not decide, but it would be great if you can update us in your blog about what is going on. Are you?
Franziska, think about it. Who is financing this? Why? Have you ever literally read any texts of the treaty of lissabon? Could it be some people are using your understandable European enthousiasm?
Neither Gauweiler nor Lafontaine are Anti-European. They are against a European Union that does not respect the experiences of the Third Reich: It is essential for the survival of democracy in Europe to ensure that basic constitutional principals of Germany’s basic law are preserved for future generations also at the EU level. If these experiences are not respected at EU level while at the same time Germany’s basic law would be prioritized by texts of the Lissabon treaty, it is better to trash the treaty altogether, for the sake of a free Europe of free peoples of Europe.
Have you ever literally read any texts of the treaty of lissabon?
The text is easily available; I tried to read it - it’s not really a treaty on its own, just a bunch of amendments.
I must say that overall I am really impressed with this blog.It is easy to see that you are passionate about your writing. If only I had your writing ability I look forward to more updates and will be returning.
Porto is just a couple of pearls from Portugal. Something to recommend for the autumn vacation.
